About Founder Fundamentals
Interested in building your entrepreneurial skills to launch your startup?
YSpace, York University’s innovation hub, is partnering with the Markham Small Business Centre (MSBC) to host an 11-week educational program called Founders Fundamentals.
Whether you are a professional services company, brick and mortar or technology startup, the program aims to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to succeed. Spanning across topics such as social media marketing, to how to write a business plan, to legal basics and more, this program provides a wide range of learning. In addition, the program connects you with local resources for potential next steps as you progress in your entrepreneurial ventures.
Individuals who attend at least 9 out of the 11 workshops will receive an Innovation York Certificate of Completion, illustrating their dedication to learning about the essentials of launching a successful business.
About the Workshop
Social media has become vital for any business. With attention spans shorter than ever, it has become increasingly important to capture your audience’s attention in a mere matter of seconds. In most cases founders are not social media and marketing experts but with some training, you can learn how to build an effective social media strategy to help maximize your success. This workshop will explore:
- What to do before you start on social media. (Unf*cking your website).
- Step by step how to build a social media strategy, (including what to actually post).
- How to use social media for more than you think you can use it for.
- How to assess different channels and the return they can provide for your business and why or why not they are good for you.
- How to actually write for and create content by channel.
- How to measure success.
About the Presenter
Brent Stirling, Performance Marketing Manager- Social, Shopify
Brent is the social media performance marketing manager at Shopify. His experience ranges all forms of paid and organic social, as well as multi-channel strategy building for a number of verticals and industries that include SAAS, tech startups, direct to consumer brands, hospitality and politics.
