Kleinburg Economic Development Strategy
A community’s downtown is its heart and soul and Kleinburg’s main street has enjoyed a rich and varied history. In recent decades, however, it has gone through economic changes due to shifts in shopping and purchasing patterns. To address Kleinburg’s economic challenges, the City of Vaughan undertook and completed an area-focused Kleinburg Economic Development Strategy (KEDS) intending to create a vision and guidelines for the long-term economic revitalization of the Kleinburg downtown and commercial core area.
Municipal Accommodation Tax
Tourism is an important economic driver for Vaughan. Beyond accommodations and attractions, the sector also includes arts, entertainment, transportation providers, retail, food and beverage, personal services, sports providers, cultural industries, etc. The Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries estimated that the Tourism industry accounts for more than 3,500 businesses employing almost 52,000 people in the City.
Economic Development and Employment Sectors Study
As Vaughan-based businesses compete in the national and global marketplace for new business and product mandates, it is the City’s role to support, facilitate and shape a competitive, resilient, business-friendly and growth-focused environment through its policies and actions. The Economic Development and Employment Sectors Study (EDESS) is the City’s forward-looking economic development roadmap to accelerate local economic growth and job creation over the next five years (2019–2023). It will be used to inform the preparation of the City’s new Official Plan and the Growth Management Strategy.
Vaughan Economic Development Strategy 2010
Vibrant cities and regions undergo a process of continuous renewal. For the past three years, Vaughan's Growth Management Strategy, along with the Official Plan, have led the visioning process for the City's development as a major urban centre. With the adoption of the Economic Development Strategy, there's a new blueprint for Vaughan's sustainability and future economic health.
