Better Your Business – RideAlike
RideAlike
RideAlike has made the decision to commit to contributing business practices and activities that respond to the Sustainable Development Goals as issued by the United Nations. The following is a list of the 17 goals outlined by the UN, and how we plan to commit to practices that best meet those goals.
We have flexibility in our fees for families who require financial support. Unlike most car rental companies, we rent our vehicles on a day-to-day and as-needed basis. This allows those with financial constraints to have a car for only a few hours, if needed. We also offer flexible payment schedules for those who may require it. Our discounts for those in need have been as high as 35 per cent.
We commit to making donations to Vaughan’s local Food Banks by creating food donation bags comprised on contributions made by our staff and customers.
We provide a gym membership to all our staff and participate in a “Team Walk” every day along a local path. We provide the option of working from home when staff members are not feeling well. We follow the city mandates for best practices to maintain good health.
We provide educational programs for the public on cars and car ownership. We commit to contribute to sustainability education through postings on our social media channels.
We have six employees and are equally split in gender 50-50. We are committed to gender equality in all our hiring practices. We support women with training in computer work as well as new customer software, customer relationship management (CRM), interpersonal skills development. We also encourage our employees to attend conferences for personal and professional development.
We not only offer free, clean drinking water for our staff and members but also provide water through a filtered system throughout our premises.
Regularly scheduled inspections of our washroom and kitchen facilities ensure continuous cleanliness and hygiene throughout.
We have special promotions for our electric cars to encourage our customers to transition to a cleaner energy alternative. This program has been very successful as we have seen customers eventually buy an electric car after renting ours. We also commit to transition to energy-efficient lighting throughout our office.
We have internship opportunities available for students and regularly work with Humber College, Seneca College, and York University in training these students. When working with us, we are committed to capacity building by teaching our student interns new skills. We have a standard eight-hour office day but also provide a work-from-home option, if required.
We provide free WiFi for all our customers and offer the latest in innovative automotive technology, including electric cars. As part of our commitment to integrated solutions, we have AI machine learning.
We are dedicated to diminishing inequalities by fostering inclusivity for individuals with disabilities. We have facilities for the disabled and are committed to acquiring cars for the disabled in the future
Our washrooms are wheelchair accessible. This approach underscores our commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that our community activities are accessible to everyone.
Our core value is to rent a car just for when you need it. We work with cities across Ontario (Vaughan, Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Brampton, and Ajax) to identify areas of need where there is less public transportation available. Our value proposition includes farmlands, last mile delivery to augment public transportation for work and school commutes covering off hours, overflow, etc.
We actively promote responsible consumption and production through our sustainable practices of responsible recycling and safe chemical and e-waste disposal including computer cartridges and batteries. We also minimize our use of paper by transitioning to digital alternatives.
We have both recycle bins and compost bins on site.
We commit to promoting climate action for groups and organizations that align with our educational programs on electric vehicles through our social media and website presences online. Furthermore, we pledge our support to climate action groups and NGOs such as the UNFCCC and its Youth Climate Report programs. Through our social media subscriptions, website links, and information postings, we aim to keep the community well-informed about global climate initiatives.
We are dedicated to reducing the impact of plastic waste from our community on rivers, lakes, and oceans. Our ultimate goal is to transition exclusively to sustainably produced alternatives. To achieve this, we plan to actively volunteer and donate to organizations that promote marine conservation.
When shopping for fish, we always choose locally available fish.
As we have stated in previous goals of this sustainability mandate, we are committed to recycling and have set the objective of using only environmentally-friendly materials whenever possible. To reduce our paper consumption, we are actively planning to transition to a 100% digital approach.
We also plan to participate in community-wide plastic pickup events with local youth in our parks.
Furthermore, we plan to actively support the tree-planting initiatives made by the City of Vaughan and other organizations in our community.
To ensure the safety of our members, our premises is equipped with security measures, including video monitoring and bar code access systems. Our partnership with the York Regional Police ensures cooperation in stolen car cases to minimize organized crime.
We are dedicated to partnering with groups, organizations, and suppliers who share our commitment to sustainable business practices. To date, we have maintained and commit to grow, our sustainability scores with these partners.
