Vaughan is a world-class destination for excellence in healthcare and health innovation.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the City of Vaughan is leading a collaboration to transform an 82-acre parcel of land at Jane Street and Major Mackenzie Drive into the Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct (VHCP). Together, with partners Mackenzie Health, York University and ventureLAB, the City is developing a world-class destination for healthcare excellence.

The VHCP will be a leading medical innovation hub, representing a collaboration between top educators, researchers, practitioners and business incubators.

The VHCP will have a broad mandate to advance community health innovation in the social, technological and business spheres. It will be a destination of choice for research, education, innovation and commercialization and services in healthcare delivery, informatics and wellness, focused on a unique “care without walls” approach.

In partnership with ventureLAB and Sterling Industries, the creation of the City’s first MedTech Lab at Sterling represents a mutual vision to propel Canada into the future of what is possible at the intersection of MedTech, AI and Hardware.

Opened in 2023, the lab is tailored to the needs of medical hardware startups and is equipped with industry-standard equipment and testing facilities that can be used to develop and test the functionality of the products designed for medical purposes. This critical resource helps MedTech companies accelerate their time to market in a sector that normally incurs lengthy entry and scale times, enabling Canadian hardware and semiconductor companies to grow and scale locally and compete globally.

The collaboration aims to bring together the knowledge and experience of individuals and organizations with a strong background in cutting-edge hardware development and medical technology, to create an environment that will attract MedTech startups to Vaughan, ultimately benefitting patients and healthcare providers alike.
