The Major Mackenzie Healthcare Corridor offers opportunities for companies with cutting-edge innovation in the life sciences, healthcare and health technology sectors.

This unique area connects the Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct (VHCP), Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital – Canada’s first smart hospital – and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital with future community health assets like the North Maple Regional Park, which promotes community-wide health benefits for businesses and residents. It will be a destination of choice for research, education, innovation and commercialization; providing services in health, healthcare delivery and informatics; wellness focused on community care and active living.

The following partners helped make the development of this corridor possible:

• Mackenzie Health: A dynamic regional healthcare provider supporting residents across western York Region at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and a network of community-based locations.
• York University: An internationally recognized and progressive teaching and research university with a strong foundation in health and health-related programs.
• ventureLAB: A leading global founder community for hardware technology and enterprise software companies. ventureLAB’s initiatives have facilitated the creation of more than 4,000 jobs and raised over $200 million in investment capital. Their Vaughan-based Hardware Catalyst Initiative helps medical device startups scale.

Through these partnerships, the VHCP will be a leading medical innovation hub and a world-class destination for excellence in healthcare and health innovation. It will be a first-of-its-kind health initiative, spanning over an 82-acre parcel of land at Jane Street and Major Mackenzie Drive.

ventureLAB and Sterling Industries expanded ventureLAB’s Hardware Catalyst Initiative to establish a $2.5 million MedTech lab and incubator for hardware and semiconductor companies in Vaughan which opened in the spring of 2023.
