Mobility Demonstration Zone
The Province of Ontario has awarded the cities of Vaughan and Markham $2.5 million in funding to launch an Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) Demonstration Zone.
About the Project
The OVIN Demonstration Zone supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in demonstrating and showcasing advanced automotive and smart mobility technologies and solutions, including connected, autonomous, shared and integrated mobility, robotics and electric vehicle solutions.
Technology demonstrations will be conducted in real-world environments using digital and physical infrastructure within the cities of Markham and Vaughan to solve real-world transportation and mobility challenges and provide the public with an opportunity to learn about and experience these advanced technologies.
Companies will be able to respond to ongoing calls for applications and submit their innovative automotive and smart mobility technologies and solutions. The application portal and calls for application will launch in the Fall of 2023.
About the Demonstration Zone
The OVIN Demonstration Zone provides a real-world environment that promotes collaboration to advance the commercialization of automotive technologies and accelerate smart mobility innovation. These technologies have the potential to improve quality of life, while generating new economic opportunities for Ontario.
The Demonstration Zone will operate in sites across the York Region, home to Canada’s largest automotive parts and electronics manufacturing hub, most of which are located in Markham and Vaughan. The Zone will operate with the support of key partners, including SmartCentres, Rogers Communications, Syntronic, Honda Canada, AMD, IBM, Qualcomm, Microart Services Inc., Remington Group, PSP Services, York Region, York Region Transit, Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), York University, Alectra, and Seneca-HELIX.
