About Community Living York South (CLYS)

Founded in 1954, Community Living York South is a non-profit charitable organization that supports children, youth, adults and seniors with intellectual disabilities and their families across Southern York Region. CLYS provides a broad range of person-centred services, including supported living, day and community supports, employment services, recreation, summer camps, family networks and individualized community supports. Guided by its vision of “communities where everyone belongs,” CLYS empowers people to live full and meaningful lives rooted in choice, inclusion, belonging and active participation in their community.

The Program: Customer Service & Money Handling

This in-person Customer Service & Money Handling Training Program is designed specifically for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Participants will build practical workplace skills in communication, professionalism, teamwork, customer and employer expectations, problem-solving, cash handling and point-of-sale transactions through interactive instruction, role-play and hands-on learning experiences. Upon completion, participants will have strengthened their workplace readiness, confidence and independence, positioning them to pursue and succeed in competitive customer-facing employment in sectors such as retail, hospitality, and food and beverage services.

CLYS has a strong connection to the City of Vaughan through its programs, partnerships and longstanding commitment to accessibility and inclusive employment. The organization has partnered with the City on initiatives including Project SEARCH and was recognized with the City’s Accessibility Champion Award. Through its Vaughan-based Learning Academy and marketplace programs, ACT Initiative, Community Support Program and network of employment and vocational partners, CLYS connects Vaughan residents with opportunities to develop skills and pursue employment. The Talent City program will further strengthen these connections by equipping participants with the skills and confidence needed to participate in the local workforce and community.
