Talent City Vaughan Grant Recipient Profile – GTA Mavericks Basketball Association

Talent City Vaughan is a first-of-its-kind municipal workforce development initiative that supports purpose-driven training initiatives across Vaughan. The 2025 cohort of grant recipients offers a host of in-demand training programs for Vaughan residents and employees of Vaughan-based businesses – like GTA Mavericks Basketball Association‘s Coach Training Program!

The Program

Supported by Talent City Vaughan, GTA Mavericks will host a brief, in-person coaching clinic in August 2025. Across a compact series of sessions, local youth will explore core coaching principles, inclusive leadership practices, and hands-on court techniques. The program blends interactive workshops with practical demonstrations and provides graduates with follow-up mentoring and clear pathways to future coaching roles.

Rooted in Vaughan, GTA Mavericks partners with schools, community centres, and other organizations to make sport a launchpad for employment and civic engagement. The 2025 training will expand Vaughan’s pool of qualified coaches, strengthen recreational programs, and create inclusive leadership pathways that reflect the city’s growing diversity.
