Talent City Vaughan Grant Recipient Profile – The Equity & Health Literacy Project (EHLP)

Talent City Vaughan is a first-of-its-kind municipal workforce development initiative that supports purpose-driven training initiatives across Vaughan. The 2025 cohort of grant recipients offers a host of in-demand training programs for Vaughan residents and employees of Vaughan-based businesses – like The Equity & Health Literacy Project’s Foundations in Health Navigation and Communication Program!

The Program

EHLP’s Talent City program, Foundations in Health Navigation and Communication, is a 12-week, in-person course. It teaches practical health navigation skills such as interpreting medical paperwork, communicating with healthcare providers, and identifying health misinformation. Sessions are supported by multilingual volunteers and trained healthcare professionals to ensure an inclusive, culturally relevant experience for Vaughan residents and employees of Vaughan-based businesses.

EHLP’s programming is tailored to the lived realities of Vaughan’s underserved populations, especially those in precarious jobs or supporting non-English-speaking family members. By fostering health literacy and communication skills, the program strengthens community resilience and supports workforce development. Graduates may apply their learning in public-facing roles, clinic support, or caregiving contexts, while also reducing workplace absences due to preventable health issues. EHLP’s partnerships with local clinics, cultural associations, and service agencies ensure the program is grounded in the needs of Vaughan’s diverse communities.
