Mr. and Mrs. Bao Restaurants has made the decision to commit to contributing business practices and activities that respond to the Sustainable Development Goals as issued by the United Nations. The following is a list of the 17 goals outlined by the UN, and how we plan to commit practices that best meet those goals.

In addressing this goal, have partnered with Hope 4 Homeless. This local charitable organization provide fund-raisers for the homeless and we provide food vouchers as donations for the homeless. We also provide free Miso soup for anyone who can’t afford our food.

In times of a pandemic or epidemic, we commit to following all government guidelines and restrictions for the protection of our staff and customers. To promote good health, our company commits to never using artificial coloring or additives in our food products. Our focus is always to provide nutritional food. We also provide clean and safe drinking water free of charge and provide access to public washrooms even to those who may not be customers.

Our hiring practice affords full opportunities to men and women. Currently, we strive to have equal representations of both genders in our a staff. As a corporate policy, we provide equal opportunities for both men and women in all our employment areas.

Water and Sanitation - United Nations Sustainable Development

In addition to providing a drinking fountain dispensing clean drinking water free of charge for our staff and customers, we also provide access to clean and sanitary washrooms on site for all staff and customers and those who may not be staff or customers, but those walk-ins who may require access to our washrooms. Our facilities are cleaned every shift to ensure safe and clean sanitation.

Affordable and Clean Energy - Wellesley Institute

Our commitment to using affordable and clean energy extends to our subscription to Ontario Wholesale Energy and supporting clean energy research. Our company car is an electric vehicle and we provide free access to energy to our customers as well as chargers for those who may need to charge their devices while dining with us.

Goal 8 | Department of Economic and Social Affairs

We aim to build our community’s economic growth through a youth and students summer employment program. We hold these jobs for the students each summer to ensure employment for them. We provide food vouchers to students who attend the Western Sustainability Club, a network of youth voices working towards a sustainable future. We also have programs in place specifically to assist immigrants and New Canadians with employment necessary to help them achieve residency status. Furthermore, we also have the willingness to provide flexible work hours to better serve our team’s family needs.

Our company is committed to innovation. We work with the Canadian Digital Adoption Program, a national organization that helps clients grow their businesses with unique marketing technology solutions. Experts in digital technologies advise us how best to innovate our business practices with a focus on sustainability.

We commit to reducing inequalities by providing accessibility to the disabled through access ramps and specially fitted washrooms. We do not discriminate against any group, including those living in poverty. We provide free food such as Miso soup to those in  need. We also commit to supporting shelters such as My Sister’s Place in London, ON, a not-for-profit organization that provides residential and outreach services for Women and their Children living with the consequences of violence and abuse. We also strive to become aware of changes in social inequalities in our community on a regular basis. We will also consider special efforts in hiring and/or training programs for refugees.

We commit to sustainable cities and communities by being as inclusive as possible in our staff hirings and products and services for our customers. We celebrate different cultures in our restaurants at events that raise awareness of different communities and their food. Currently, we share customs, traditions, and food from India, Nepal, the Philippines, Indonesia and Muslin, Indigenous, and Asian communities.

Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

We practice responsible consumption and production through plastic reduction and proper disposal. We use eco-packaging for all our products and reduce our paper consumption by using digital platforms at all times. We also support this goal by providing knowledge dissemination of responsible consumption and production through our website and social media channels.

Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action

We use electric and hybrid vehicles in our fleet of company cars. We source local supplies to reduce our carbon footprint and use energy-efficient and LED lighting in all our restaurants. We commit to supporting climate action groups such as the UNFCCC and its Youth Climate Report programs through social media subscriptions and website links and information postings.

Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water

We commit to reducing our use of plastic by providing only paper bags for customers. We engage in many climate-sensitive business practices through our partnership with the Ivy Business School Sustainability Program to ensure plastic does not reach the oceans of the world. We also source all our certified fish products locally.

Sustainable Development Goal 15 - Wikipedia

We commit to recycling all waste products and use only environmentally-friendly materials. We reduce our use of paper through moving most of our paperwork to paper-free digital platforms. We also participate in local clean-up programs when our food trucks participate in outdoor events within the community.

We support community law enforcement programs and institutions and work closely with Crime Stoppers of York Region, a crime prevention program in our community.

Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals

We are committed to partnering with companies who share our commitment to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Some of our partners in this regard include the Hope for Homeless program and Western University. We continue to prioritize partnerships with business that adhere to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
