ventureLAB Opens Hardware Catalyst MedTech Lab in Vaughan at Sterling Industries

Vaughan has a thriving health technology and life sciences sector. In collaboration with leading health tech partners like ventureLAB, the Vaughan Healthcare Centre Precinct (VHCP) is transforming into a world-class destination for healthcare innovation.

Today, ventureLAB hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of their new MedTech Lab in Vaughan, a state-of-the-art facility that focuses on the development of microelectronic hardware devices for medical applications. The new lab is opening in collaboration with Sterling Industries, an industry-leading medical device manufacturing company that has been growing in Vaughan since 1984.

In 2022, ventureLAB secured a $2.5 million investment from the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Together Fund from the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, to establish a MedTech-specific stream of it’s Hardware Catalyst Initiative. This new lab is focused on the unique hardware and semiconductor needs of healthcare companies and creates opportunities for ambitious companies to land and grow in Vaughan

The ventureLAB MedTech Lab will provide MedTech startups with access to the resources they need to overcome the commercialization challenges associated with the development of microelectronic hardware devices across medical, biological and chemical applications, allowing hardware startups to refine and test medical-related hardware devices with affordable pricing and flexible usage. Tailored to the needs of startups in the medical hardware space, the lab is equipped with industry standard equipment and testing facilities that can be used to develop and test the functionality of the products designed for medical purposes.

As a joint effort between City of Vaughan, ventureLAB and Sterling Industries, the MedTech Lab at Sterling represents a mutual vision to propel Canada into the future of what is possible at the intersection of MedTech, AI and Hardware. The collaboration aims to bring together the knowledge and experience of individuals and organizations with a strong background in cutting edge hardware development and medical technology, in order to create an environment that will attract MedTech startups to Vaughan, and ultimately benefit patients and healthcare providers alike.
