York Region is taking action on the housing affordability crisis

York Region is taking action on the housing affordability crisis by launching a study on a Vacant Homes Tax. This tax would apply only to non-principal residences that are unoccupied for a specified period and encourage homeowners to occupy or rent out their homes. Any tax revenues generated would be used to support affordable housing initiatives. Residents of York Region are invited to provide their input by completing a short survey. Additionally, they can share their thoughts in two virtual town hall meetings at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 7 and Monday, July 11. Visit york.ca/VacantHomesTax to learn more or to register.
