Talent City Vaughan Grant Recipient Profile – Vaughan International Film Festival

Talent City Vaughan is a first-of-its-kind municipal workforce development initiative that supports purpose-driven training initiatives across Vaughan. The 2023 cohort of grant recipients offered a host of in-demand training programs for Vaughan residents and employees of Vaughan-based businesses – like Vaughan International Film Festivals Inspiring Future Filmmaker seminar series!

Over the last 11 years, the Vaughan International Film Festival (VFF) has transformed itself into one of the most highly regarded and recognized international short film festivals in Canada. VFF is strongly invested in securing the future of the short film industry. Through public film screenings, scholarship opportunities as well as engaging and informative panels, webinars and industry events, VFF strives to support both experienced and aspiring filmmakers.

VFF’ Inspiring Future Filmmakers seminar explores a range of topics with speakers who are directly immersed in the industry. Each seminar will begin with an intimate discussion to allow the participants to learn about the speaker’s background and experience as well as gain insights from the thoughtful conversations. This will be followed by an interactive demonstration/walkthrough of the skills used in the specific sector of the industry being covered. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions to the speaker during a thought-provoking Q&A session.

VFF strives to support local, emerging filmmakers, demonstrated by its support and furthering of arts education through various financial contributions given to young filmmakers, art students, and educational institutions within the Vaughan community and beyond. In addition, the festival’s various seminars and workshops offer local filmmakers the opportunity to gain valuable insight and insider techniques that they can, in turn, apply into their own projects. Thus, VFF plays a pivotal role in supporting the development of the local, independent film industry by offering a platform for emerging filmmakers to acquire industry knowledge and develop technical skills which will ultimately help them to
advance in their own careers.
